Our passion for Earthmoving starts when Jon Brewer works for Cable Price and does his apprenticeship in diesel mechanical. After 3 years he gains his mechanics certificate becoming a fully-fledged diesel mechanic. Throughout his time at Cables he becomes interested in excavators. One day dreaming of owning his own contracting business.
1987
Jon in employeed as an excavator operator with a Cambridge based company called Camtract. Owned by the Powells. They do a range of Civil and Rural projects around the wider Waikato area.
1992
Jon is part of the Camtract team that constructs the Tamahere bypass interchange on State Highway 1 near Hamilton
1994
went to work on the Family Farm in Te Miro when the owner of Camtract Geoff Powell moved down to the Westcoast.
1998
Started Cambridge Excavators (Camex) as an owner operator.
2000
First employee – Ivor Walker started with Jon. Ivor is still with us today. Thanks Ivor.
2007
Jason Brewer (Jons son) starts working in the business and works to get his drain laying, water reticulation and civil infrastructure pipe laying qualifications.
2008
First commercial drainage project is secured.
2010

Camex is awarded a project at the Mighty River Power Karapiro Dam to reinstate a wash out around the end of the dam. See before and after photos.
2015
Our first residential subdivision project is secured and staff numbers reach 16
2016
First Topcon GPS Kits fitted to excavators. Staff numbers are now over 30
2016
Rebranded as Camex Civil to represent the focus and work that we now do.
2017
Full time staff numbers hit 50+. Camex Civil completed a number of its largest earthmoving, carpark, and drainage projects to date.
